"There is no Buddha magic": what if you were right?
The historical Buddha did not teach magic, nor did he ask his disciples to wear amulets. However, Buddhism has grown over 2,500 years, giving rise to traditions such as mantras, thangkas, and amulets. Their absence from the earliest teachings is not enough to exclude them from Buddhism.
The Buddha asked his monks not to make a living from divination or certain practices described as "minor arts." This does not amount to condemning every amulet worn by a devotee. Like a tree grown from a seed, the Dharma has developed new branches without necessarily losing its roots.
