Biography of Venerable Phra Ajarn Aod of Wat Sai Mai

Venerable Phra Ajarn Aod, also known as Phra Palat Itthiphol Pathaniko or Luang Phor Aod Wat Sai Mai, is one of the most respected contemporary masters in the province of Pathum Thani, central Thailand.

Born on July 30, 1959 as Itthiphol Pengphon, he was ordained as a monk on January 6, 1991 at Wat Sai Mai, a temple located in Khu Khot, Lam Luk Ka district. Today he is known by the ecclesiastical title of Phra Khru Sophon Phattharawet.

Wat Sai Mai is an ancient temple in Pathum Thani, whose history is linked to several generations of abbots. Phra Ajarn Aod became one of its most famous figures from the 2000s, notably through his work in developing the temple, his Buddhist teachings, and his reputation in the field of Thai sacred objects.

A master renowned for takrut and protection amulets

Phra Ajarn Aod is particularly famous for his takrut Look Pern (takrut made with two bullet casings). These protection amulets, linked to martial symbolism and invulnerability, have greatly impressed both Thai and foreign collectors.

According to ancient tradition, these takrut were made from old bullet casings provided by military disciples, then consecrated through prayer rituals and sacred sealing. These objects are sought after for invulnerability to bladed weapons, as well as for courage and spiritual defense.

Anecdotes and esoteric traditions

Around 2008, Venerable Phra Ajarn Aod became very famous by demonstrating daily the effectiveness of his Takrut Look Pern amulets to disciples who came to receive them directly from him.
The disciple would receive the amulet, recite the khata with the Venerable, then be struck several times with a heavy and very sharp saber.

I myself underwent this test, and although the Venerable struck hard, the blade only penetrated my skin by less than a millimeter.

Another tradition associates his creations with the lineage of protection amulets inspired by ancient masters such as Luang Phor Kuay. Disciples see in his takrut a combination of monastic discipline, yant science, and protective blessing.

“Think well, speak well, act well: may good things come throughout the day.”

This formula, attributed to the spirit of his public teaching, summarizes Phra Ajarn Aod's approach well: a simple, direct practice, based on righteous conduct, spiritual protection, and trust in the blessings of the Dharma.

Even today, the name Phra Ajarn Aod Wat Sai Mai remains associated with Thai protection amulets, sacred takrut, and blessed objects from Wat Sai Mai. For many devotees, his creations are not just collector's items, but objects of faith, respect, and connection with Thai Buddhist tradition.
