Most Venerable Luang Phor Saur Kantiko from Wat Pho Si

Luang Phor Saur Kantiko, also transcribed as Luang Pu Saur Khantiko, was one of the great spiritual masters from the province of Nakhon Phanom, in Northeast Thailand, near the Mekong River.

Born in 1905, he entered monastic life at a very young age and remained throughout his life committed to a simple, austere practice deeply rooted in the Buddhist tradition of Isan. He was associated with Wat Pho Si, a temple located in the Ram Rat area, Tha Uthen district, Nakhon Phanom province.

Thai sources describe him as a monk who lived through six reigns, an exceptional fact that contributed to his reputation as a living patriarch, a witness to an entire century of transformations in Thailand. He passed away peacefully on July 6, 2019, at the venerable age of 114 years, after 94 years of monastic life.

The Most Venerable Luang Phor Saur Kantiko was renowned for his discipline, kindness, and humble character. Devotees came to him to receive his blessings, advice, and sometimes amulets consecrated according to the ancient traditions of Northeast Thailand.

His name is also linked to the spiritual lineage of great masters of Nakhon Phanom, particularly around the sacred region of Phra That Phanom, one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites on the Mekong.
