Biography of the Most Venerable Luang Phor Ruay Pasatiko of Wat Tako

Luang Phor Ruay Pasatiko, also known by the monastic title of Phra Mongkhon Sitthachan, was one of the great Thai Buddhist masters of Ayutthaya. Born on December 9, 1921, in Ban Tako, Phachi District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, he entered monastic life at a very young age, first as a novice at Wat Tako, then as a fully ordained monk in 1941.

A disciple of renowned masters from central Thailand, Luang Phor Ruay studied Dharma, Vipassana meditation, traditional blessings, and sacred Thai sciences. He was notably connected to the lineage of Luang Phor Chuen of Wat Phachi, who was himself associated with ancient masters of Ayutthaya.

For over seventy years of monastic life, Luang Phor Ruay remained deeply devoted to Wat Tako, located in Don Ya Nang, Phachi, Ayutthaya. His reputation gradually extended beyond the province: devotees, merchants, amulet collectors, and disciples came to receive his blessings for protection, prosperity, business luck, and family stability.

The Master of Wat Tako and Prosperity Amulets

The name “Ruay” literally means “rich” or “prosperous” in Thai, which naturally contributed to his popularity. But his disciples recall that LP Ruay never reduced wealth to money: for him, true prosperity came from an upright life, hard work, generosity, and adherence to Buddhist precepts.

“Good objects can help us, but we must also be good people.”

This quote encapsulates his teaching: a Buddhist amulet is not a magical shortcut, but a support for faith, discipline, and merit.

Esoteric Anecdotes and Popular Stories

Among the stories associated with Luang Phor Ruay, a famous tale recounts that a person struck by lightning survived while wearing an amulet blessed by the master. As often in Thai tradition, this type of testimony belongs to the realm of popular faith and disciples' accounts, but it explains the great protective reputation of his medals.

Another tradition reports that his sacred bracelets and his “Chana Chon” medals, literally “overcoming poverty,” were sought after by many Thai merchants. Many wore them not only to attract luck but also as a daily reminder to work with honesty, perseverance, and generosity.

Passing and Spiritual Legacy

Luang Phor Ruay Pasatiko passed away on July 19, 2017, at the age of 95, after approximately 76 years of monastic life. Even today, Wat Tako in Ayutthaya remains an important pilgrimage site. People come there to pay homage to the venerable master, visit the large commemorative chedi, and ask for a blessing of prosperity, protection, and righteous success.
