Luang Phor Pian Akathamo, also known by his monastic title Phra Khru Wimonsamanawat, was one of the great masters of Lopburi in the 20th century. Born in the Ban Mi area, Lopburi province, he remained deeply connected throughout his life to Wat Krian Katin, located in Ban Chi, Ban Mi district.

Before his ordination, Luang Phor Pian bore the civil name Pian Yodwan. From a rural family, he grew up in a simple environment, close to Thai agricultural traditions and village life. This humble origin profoundly marked his character: simplicity, patience, discipline, and great closeness to the faithful.

He was ordained a monk relatively late in life, but his commitment to the Dhamma was total. Under the religious name Akathamo, he devoted himself to Buddhist practice, the study of teachings, the development of the temple, and spiritual assistance to the inhabitants of Lopburi and neighboring provinces.

Over the years, Luang Phor Pian became a highly respected figure in popular Thai Buddhism. The faithful revered him for his kindness, monastic rigor, and reputation as a master of blessings. He was particularly famous for his takrut, tiger amulets, red pha yant, medals, and protective amulets, associated in Thai tradition with protection, metta, luck, commerce, and spiritual strength.

Wat Krian Katin became, thanks to him, an important spiritual center in Lopburi. Luang Phor Pian developed the buildings there, supported the local community, and attracted many disciples who came to receive his blessings. His reputation gradually spread beyond the limits of Ban Mi, to the point that he was sometimes nicknamed by his faithful the protective master of the Ban Mi plains.

I was very fortunate to be able to visit Wat Krian Katin several times in the early 2000s and meet the Most Venerable Luang Phor Pian there.

In the world of Thai amulet collectors, the creations blessed by Luang Phor Pian hold a special place. His sacred objects are sought after not only for their spiritual value but also for their direct link to a lineage of rural masters deeply rooted in the magical and Buddhist tradition of central Thailand.

Luang Phor Pian Akathamo passed away on November 16, 2017, leaving behind a living memory, a temple marked by his work, and a tradition of amulets still highly respected. For Thai devotees, he remains a master of protection, compassion, and inner strength.
