Most Venerable Luang Phor Mee Khématomo from Wat Man Wichai

Luang Phor Mee Khématomo, also known as Phra Khru Kasem Khanaphiban, was one of the great monks of Ayutthaya province. He resided at Wat Man Wichai, in Sena district, and remains highly respected today by devotees, collectors of Thai amulets, and practitioners dedicated to the tradition of forest masters and great khruba ajarn.

Birth and Youth

Luang Phor Mee was born on March 4, 1911, in Khanom Chin village, near Wat Man Wichai. His birth name was Boonmee Thanasan. His parents were Mot and Phut Thanasan. Traditional accounts describe him as a calm, frail child, not very talkative, but already inclined towards merit, temples, and religious life.

At the age of twelve, he asked to follow his elder brother, who was a monk at the time, to live in the temple. His family initially hesitated but then agreed. This first stay at Wat Man Wichai deeply marked his spiritual destiny.

Ordination and Monastic Name

In 1932, after drawing the black card during military conscription (meaning no military service for him), he was able to fulfill his wish: to definitively enter monastic life. He was ordained on July 14, 1932, at Wat Man Wichai.

He then received the monastic name Khématomo, or Khemadhammo, which can be translated as "he who dwells in the peaceful and secure Dharma."

Training with Great Masters

Luang Phor Mee studied monastic discipline, meditation, and traditional sacred sciences. He received teachings from Luang Phor Khian of Wat Ban Phrao Nok, who was related to his family and transmitted knowledge of rituals, the crafting of blessed objects, and ancient Thai esoteric sciences.

He was also closely associated with two very great masters: Luang Phor Parn of Wat Bang Nom Kho and especially Luang Phor Chong of Wat Na Tang Nok. Thai sources emphasize that he frequented Luang Phor Chong for nearly thirty years, regularly traveling between Wat Man Wichai and Wat Na Tang Nok.

Abbot of Wat Man Wichai

In 1938, Luang Phor Mee became the abbot of Wat Man Wichai. He taught Dhamma to monks and novices, participated in local religious life, and was later appointed ecclesiastical head in the Bang Nom Kho region.

In 1964, he received the title of Phra Khru Kasem Khanaphiban. His influence gradually extended beyond the village: people came to him for his blessings, advice, amulets, and his reputation as a monk endowed with great spiritual power.

Esoteric Anecdotes and Popular Traditions

Several popular stories surround the life of Luang Phor Mee. During his periods of wandering and practice in the forest, he is said to have crossed dangerous areas without ever being attacked by wild animals, which disciples attributed to the protection of his masters and his meditative strength.

Another tradition tells that he was called to help a practitioner affected by a form of black magic. After a ritual of blessing and exorcism, the man was said to have been freed from the harmful influence. This type of story explains why Luang Phor Mee remains associated with protective amulets, talismans, and purification rituals.

After his death on January 26, 2000, his body was preserved in a glass coffin at Wat Man Wichai, where devotees can still come to pay homage. For many Thais, this continuous presence symbolizes the strength of his merits and the permanence of his teachings.
