Born on November 28, 1912 in Lampang, under the name Chao Kassem Na Lampang, he belonged to a noble lineage of the region. Early on drawn to the spiritual path, he entered monastic life and later received the religious name Khemako, which can be understood as one who dwells in the peace and security of the Dharma.

Absorbed in contemplation, he would not move, nor speak, as if suspended out of time, to the point that his monk's robe itself would eventually degrade naturally due to rain and sun and fall into tatters, for lack of movement. The inhabitants and disciples, impressed by this extreme immobility, would sometimes come to ensure he was still alive,
so much did his state evoke death rather than a deep trance.
