Sacred Thai fabrics Pa Yant Mae Takian Thong
blessed by Venerable LP Somchai of Wat Dang Kwian.
*
In Thai folklore the spirits Mae Takian Thong
(also called Nang Tah-kian Thong ) are Devas (fairly similar spirits
to fairies), which are attached to the Ton Mae Takian trees.
This type of tree is extremely rare in Thailand today.
Their French name is "Ceylon ironwood".
The reason for the rarity of this tree species in Thailand is precisely the belief that female spirits live in these trees,
because Thai people believe that some of these spirits can become evil, manifesting in the form of a very beautiful young girl and attacking
to men who would succumb to their charms
a bit like a vampire!
The legend says "these spirits sometimes materialize in the form of pretty, scantily clad young girls and sing sad songs to attract men to them,
if a lonely man approaches them and asks if they are all right,
They kiss him and suck the life out of his body."
*
The Mae Takian spirit represented on this Pa Yant is obviously not evil,
he will serve as guardian of the place where this image will be kept.
*
Please note that Venerable Lp Somchai (Phra Somchai Jitang Sawaro)
left us in 2014, and this Pa-Yant is therefore not new (it has pin marks on its four corners) .
*
UNIQUE PIECE.
