Rare Chuchok fortune statuette in sacred Mae Koon wood, made by Venerable Phra Ajarn Daeng of Wat Pom Raman, Ayutthaya Province.
This statuette represents Chuchok, a famous character from the Vessantara Jataka and a figure particularly associated, in popular Thai beliefs, with the ability to obtain what one desires. Chuchok is thus honored by some devotees as a figure of fortune, abundance, and success in endeavors.
This rare version was carved from sacred Mae Koon wood under the authority of the Venerable Phra Ajarn Daeng. Its traditional representation shows Chuchok walking with his staff, his body bent and laden with his bundle, in an immediately recognizable iconography. This statuette comes with a small sacred Pa Yant fabric of Chuchok.
Wat Pom Raman, located north of Ayutthaya, is a temple particularly linked to popular Thai beliefs. In addition to its Ubosot, Viharn, and Montop, the monastery houses an important shrine frequented by devotees who come to make offerings to Luang Po Ruesi as well as Po Pu Chuchok. Phra Ajarn Daeng is known in the region for his charisma and blessings, attracting devotees from Bangkok. The temple is also associated with amulets and the protective tradition of Sak Yant tattoos.
