A beautiful pair of small antique statuettes representing Sariputra and Moggallana, the two principal disciples of Sakyamuni Buddha.

These two figures are shown seated, their hands joined in a gesture of respect and devotion. Their deliberately identical execution emphasizes their function as an ego-free pair, traditionally placed symbolically on either side of the Buddha.

The statuettes are made of ancient gilded bronze and feature a deep patina acquired over time. They are approximately 80 years old. Their precise origin remains unknown, but they come from the region of Ubon Ratchathani, in northeastern Thailand.

The base of each statuette contains a dark sacred paste, integrated into the object during its ritual preparation. This element reinforces their religious character and links them to the tradition of ancient Buddhist devotional objects.

Sariputra is traditionally considered the Buddha's disciple eminent for his wisdom and understanding of the Dharma. Moggallana, for his part, is associated with profound spiritual realization. Together, they symbolize faithfulness to the Buddha's teaching, wisdom, and progress on the spiritual path.
