🪷 Vintage Guanyin medal – 1970s/80s
An elegant antique Guanyin (觀音) medal , made between the 1970s and 1980s. This oval piece, crafted from gilt metal with polychrome decoration, depicts the Bodhisattva of Compassion standing on a lotus, holding a vase of nectar and a willow branch, symbols of purification and spiritual healing. To her right is inscribed in Chinese characters the sacred mantra:唵嘛呢叭咪吽(Om Mani Padme Hum), a universal invocation of compassion.
The reverse features an ancient Buddhist pentacle composed of swastikas oriented in a solar direction, a symbol of the Dharma, light, and the cosmic wheel of the Law. This rare diagram represents the diffusion of the Buddha's teachings in the eight directions of the universe and protects the wearer from negative influences while fostering inner wisdom.
