Antique hand-forged squaring axe from Brittany, dating from the mid-19th century. It features a wide blade with a notched profile, a long socket, and a wooden handle.
Formerly intended for squaring timber, this axe retains an aged patina and signs of wear that bear witness to its history. It is in good overall condition, with a superficial crack at the edge, visible in the photograph.
Its silhouette gives it a striking medieval appearance. It would make a beautiful display piece for a historical reenactment camp, near a carpenter's workshop, or in an exhibit dedicated to ancient trades.
Could also be suitable for heading off on a crusade or for a weekend at mother-in-law's.
