These impressive natural seeds come from Thailand. They originate from a large tropical liana of the genus Entada, traditionally associated with the "Lersi Staff" (ไม้เท้าฤาษี mai thao ruesi).
In the past, the thick, woody, and naturally twisted stems of this liana were used to make staffs for the Lersi, who were hermits and spiritual masters in Thai tradition. The staff symbolizes wisdom, inner journey, knowledge, and spiritual protection.
Each seed has a different shape, color, and natural markings. Its particularly thick shell allows it to remain dormant for a long time and resist difficult conditions.
Instructions for attempting germination:
- Choose an intact seed and gently file a small spot on its edge, opposite its attachment scar.
- Stop as soon as the dark layer reveals a lighter area, without deeply cutting into the inside of the seed.
- Soak the seed for 48 hours in lukewarm water, changing the water daily.
- When it starts to swell, plant it flat in a deep pot filled with a light and very well-draining substrate.
- Cover it with 2 to 3 cm of substrate.
- Keep the pot between 25 and 30 °C, in a bright location, without direct scorching sunlight.
- Keep the substrate slightly moist, but never waterlogged to avoid rot.
- Provide a sturdy support from the beginning of growth, as this tropical plant produces a vigorous liana.
Germination remains random and can take several weeks or months. No germination can be guaranteed (I'm not in the seeds...).
