Antique forged woodsman's billhook – Leaf shape – 1950s-1960s

An antique and imposing woodsman's billhook made of forged steel, likely manufactured in the 1950s-1960s. It is immediately distinguished by its remarkable, very wide, leaf-shaped blade, a silhouette that is particularly unusual among traditional billhooks.

Designed as a true work tool, this billhook features a massive blade mounted on a solid, antique wooden handle. The piece displays a beautiful patina from use and remains in very good overall condition. The cutting edge is consistent and could perfectly well be put back into service after a simple sharpening.

An old forge mark is still visible on the blade. Partially faded by time and the use of the tool, it appears to end in "VEX", accompanied by the number "24", likely a size or model reference. Precise identification of the manufacturer remains to be determined.

Its atypical shape, authenticity, and excellent state of preservation make it both a fine usable antique tool and an interesting piece for a collector of traditional edge tools and forestry implements.
