Thai Phra Siwali Amulet in Bronze
This ancient Thai amulet depicts Phra Siwali, one of Buddha's most revered disciples in the Theravāda Buddhist tradition. Made of bronze, this small statue features a beautiful natural patina attesting to its age and history.
Phra Siwali is traditionally considered in Thailand to be the great saint of luck, abundance, and prosperity. Representations of Phra Siwali are particularly popular with travelers, merchants, and those wishing to attract favorable circumstances and avoid periods of scarcity.
This piece comes from the Ubon Ratchathani region in northeastern Thailand. Its original temple is unfortunately unknown.
The statuette depicts Phra Siwali seated, holding his alms bowl and accompanied by his monk's umbrella. The reverse features various patterns and symbols in relief. Its brown, golden, and slightly greenish patina is characteristic of a naturally aged bronze object.
