This beautiful small golden amulet depicts the Phra Mongkhon Bophit Buddha of Ayutthaya. It was consecrated in 2004 by the Phra Mongkhon Bophit Foundation.
This series has a remarkable peculiarity: the amulets contain a part of gold from the offerings made by devotees who came to pay homage to the great statue of the Phra Mongkhon Bophit Buddha. They thus establish a particularly strong material and symbolic link with this major place of devotion in Ayutthaya.
Phra Mongkhon Bophit is one of the most revered Buddha statues in Ayutthaya. This imposing ancient bronze representation of the Buddha is housed in the Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit, in the heart of the historical park. Many Thai devotees come daily to pray and place flowers and incense there. The statue, restored several times throughout its history, was notably covered with gold leaf in 1992 for the sixtieth birthday of Queen Sirikit, under the aegis of the Mongkhon Bophit Foundation.
The amulet takes the form of a small golden statuette reproducing Phra Mongkhon Bophit seated on its traditional base. It is protected by a new custom-made reliquary that allows it to be worn while preserving this sacred representation.
