Ancient Phra Somdej Amulet – Wat Rakhang
Here is a rare and authentic piece: an ancient Phra Somdej amulet from the famous Wat Rakhang (วัดระฆัง), one of Thailand's most revered temples. This piece dates from the early 20th century and bears the visible signs of its age: natural wear, slight imperfections, and one area restored by regluing (see photo).
The meditating Phra Somdej Buddha is cast in sacred clay that has aged over time, giving it a patina typical of ancient pieces. It is protected in an antique decorated metal reliquary , adorned with multi-colored enamels in the traditional Thai style, which further adds to the character of this historic piece.
This type of amulet is said to protect its wearer , attract blessings, strengthen the practice of Dharma and establish an aura of peace around oneself. The ancient Phra Somdej of Wat Rakhang are among the most sought after by collectors and devotees of Thai Buddhism.
