Luang Phor Sawai du wat pidharam

The Venerable Luang Phor Sawai of Wat Preedaram

Luang Phor Sawai, also known by his monastic title Phra Khru Sathit Chotikhun, was one of the great Buddhist masters of Nakhon Pathom province in central Thailand. He is particularly associated with Wat Preedaram (sometimes written Wat Pidharam), also called Wat Yai Som, located in the Sam Phran district, Khlong Chinda sub-district.

Born on January 18, 1921, in Ayutthaya province, Luang Phor Sawai showed an early and deep interest in the monastic path, meditation, and traditional Thai knowledge. He entered religious life at a young age and was later ordained as a Buddhist monk according to the Theravada tradition. His life was marked by discipline, meditative practice, the study of Buddha's teachings, and the transmission of ancient sacred knowledge.

Over the years, Luang Phor Sawai gained a great reputation as a monk of high virtue, a master of blessings, and a specialist in metta maha niyom practices, which signify the energy of benevolence, positive attraction, and social harmony. In popular Thai tradition, he is also known for his knowledge in the art of Na Na Thong, the gold leaf blessing applied to the forehead or certain parts of the body to attract luck, protection, charisma, and prosperity. The Venerable Luang Phor Sawai sometimes enjoyed showing his visitors that he could give this blessing without removing the protective paper from the gold leaf, which would magically pass through the paper.

Luang Phor Sawai became abbot of Wat Preedaram when the temple required significant restoration work. Thanks to his energy, faith, and the support of the faithful, he participated in the temple's development and greatly contributed to the spiritual influence of the Khlong Chinda region. His influence gradually extended beyond Nakhon Pathom, attracting disciples, devotees, and amulet collectors from all over Thailand.

Among the sacred objects associated with Luang Phor Sawai, the most sought after are his Phra Khunpen, his takuts, his incredible palat kick, his protective amulets, and his talismans related to luck, benevolent charm, and spiritual protection. His creations are prized for their symbolic power, their connection to ancient traditions, and their strong link to Thai ritual practices.

The faithful remember Luang Phor Sawai as a master who was strict in practice but profoundly compassionate. His reputation rests as much on his esoteric knowledge as on his monastic conduct, his generosity, and his role in preserving the sacred traditions of popular Thai Buddhism. He is sometimes referred to in Thai sources as the great spiritual master of Khlong Chinda, due to his aura and lasting influence in this region.

Luang Phor Sawai passed away on November 11, 2000, at the age of 79. His memory remains alive at Wat Preedaram, where his name continues to be respected by practitioners, collectors, and enthusiasts of ancient Thai amulets. Even today, his amulets are sought after for their spiritual value, their rarity, and their direct link to one of the great sacred figures of Nakhon Pathom.
