Biography of Luang Phor Aun Apipalo (Phra Kru Uthai Thammasan)

Luang Phor Aun Apipalo, also known by the monastic title Phra Kru Uthai Thammasan, is a respected monk from Uthai Thani province, Thailand. Associated with Wat Thammakosok (Rongko), he is mainly recognized for his strict meditative practice, serious ascetic discipline, and mastery of certain Wicha (traditional knowledge of protection and rituals).

Life Milestones

  • Born: B.E. 2476 (1933)
  • Ordained: B.E. 2498 (1955)
  • Province: Uthai Thani, Thailand
  • Temple: Wat Thammakosok (Rongko)

An Important Fact, Often Distorted

The Most Venerable Luang Phor Aun himself explained that as a child, his mother once took him to receive Kruba Srivichai's blessing.
This point is important because it is sometimes exaggerated in some biographies that claim Luang Phor Aun was a close disciple (or even a retreat companion) of Kruba Srivichai, which is impossible as Kruba Srivichai passed away when Luang Phor Aun was 6 years old.
It is a spiritual memory of a blessing received in his childhood, not a master-disciple relationship, and not a companionship in retreat or tudong.

Monastic Path and Spiritual Orientation

Ordained in B.E. 2498 (1955), Luang Phor Aun followed a path marked by sobriety, meditation, self-control, and the study of traditional ritual practices. His teaching and reputation are based on the consistency of his conduct, rather than embellished stories.

Wicha, Magical Protection Practices, and Reputation

Luang Phor Aun is notably associated with protection practices based on mental concentration, the use of Takut, and certain ritual approaches using traditional elements, including herbal preparations. In the amulet community, he is also known for protective creations related to formulas mentioned as Pirungambang and Theprunjuan, cited by collectors for their defensive and protective orientation.

Respectful Nickname

He is sometimes called Luang Phor Aun Tewada, (Luang Phor Aun the angel) an honorary nickname that expresses the esteem for his discipline and inner strength, without needing a spectacular interpretation.

Why His Amulets Are Sought After

  • For an image of a strict and meditative monk, associated with protection practices. Numerous anecdotes recount the miracles associated with his amulets.
  • For what is considered serious and sober consecration
  • For a consistent path, appreciated by discerning collectors

Frequently Asked Questions

Was Luang Phor Aun a direct disciple of Kruba Srivichai?
No. He stated that he received his blessing as a child. This was not a teaching relationship. He was also not a disciple of the Most Venerable Luang Phor Suk as is sometimes written, because Luang Phor Suk died 10 years before his birth!

Can he be linked to great Wicha lineages?
One can speak of influences and transmitted traditions (yes, Luang Phor Aun studied the writings of Kruba Srivichai and Luang Phor Suk, and he also learned from some of their disciples), but sensationalist (and totally anachronistic) claims from some websites should be avoided.
I myself had the chance to meet Luang Phor Aun several times and yes, he was an extraordinary Venerable, so there is no need to "invent" anachronistic lineages for him.
