Biography and amulets of the Most Venerable Phrakru Sangharak Uthai Pahangkaro

Luang Phor Uthai

🙏🏽 Biography of the Venerable Phrakru Sangharak Uthai Pahangkaro 🙏🏽

The Venerable Phrakru Sangharak Uthai Pahangkaro พระครูสังฆรักษ์อุทัย ปภงฺกโร, also known as Luang Phor Uthai, is a Thai Buddhist monk affiliated with Wat Sri Maleuk Kayawan (also known as Wat Koh Ta Phut and Wat Sri Mrigadayavan (วัดศรีมฤคทายวัน), in Ratchaburi province, Thailand.

Born in 1933 in Kanchanaburi province, Luang Phor Uthai is particularly respected for his exemplary monastic life, his spiritual practice, and his traditional knowledge of medicinal plants. Although he is blind, his disciples consider him a master with deep inner perception, hence his Thai nickname as the monk with "spiritual vision".

Over the years, his reputation has grown around his blessings, sacred objects, and protective amulets. He is notably known for talismans designed to protect against difficult natural forces, such as rain, wind, excessive heat, and bad weather. These amulets are particularly prized by farmers, fishermen, outdoor workers, and devotees seeking spiritual protection related to the elements.

Some of his amulets are made from fragments of monastic robes and sacred black stones called nin. In Thai tradition, these elements are not considered mere materials, but as supports of blessing, faith, and connection with the master who consecrated them.

In this photo from 2006, I receive the Ab Nam Mön blessing from Luang Phor Uthai.

Phrakru Sangharak Uthai's blessings are often associated with protection, health, stability, simple prosperity, and confidence in the beneficial forces of the Dharma. As with all authentic Thai Buddhist amulets, their power rests as much on the wearer's faith, respect, and righteous conduct as on the blessing received.

Today, in 2026, at the age of 93, the Most Venerable Luang Phor Uthai continues to receive devotees, teach the Dharma, and bestow his blessings.

Luang Phor Uthai's amulets remain highly sought after by collectors and practitioners of Thai Buddhism, especially those interested in provincial masters, herbalist monks, and protective traditions related to natural elements.
