Exceptional ancient Pa Yant depicting Phra Rahu Suryaparaka, consecrated during the solar eclipse of October 24, 1995, by the venerable Phra Ajarn Phong of Wat Yan Sue, in Kanchanaburi province.
This sacred Thai fabric belongs to a very rustic series, hand-printed. The large central motif depicts Phra Rahu holding the celestial body in his hands, surrounded by numerous sacred characters, yantra diagrams, and protective inscriptions.
Its irregular appearance directly attests to its artisanal manufacturing method. The red print shows slight variations in density, and the fabric retains the natural marks of its age.
This Pa Yant dates from 1995 and normally shows the traces of its approximately thirty years of existence: stains, color variations, smudges, and slight fraying of the fabric. These peculiarities are not modern defects but are an integral part of the appearance and history of this ancient ritual piece.
If you are looking for a "perfect" piece to decorate your altar, this Pa Yant is not for you. If, however, you are looking for an authentic, ancient, and handmade Phra Rahu Pa Yant, then you have found a rare gem.
The consecration performed during a solar eclipse gives this representation of Phra Rahu a particularly strong symbolism, as the eclipse is directly linked to the myth and iconography of this deity in Thai tradition.
