Blessed statue of the Buddha under the Naga King Phra Naphok
blessed at Wat Kruha Suwan (Sukothai).
*
Beautiful old-fashioned bronze statue representing
the Buddha under a sacred seven-headed Naga serpent.
This Buddha, named Phra Naphok, is traditionally known
to protect people born on Saturday .
*
If we look at the details we discover a swastika on the heart of the Buddha
and a cobra on the front part of the base of this statue.
The statue is made of dark patinated bronze, but the face and the swastika stand out in gold.
*
These statues were blessed during a special ritual dedicated to the Nagas,
They were sprinkled with sacred Kee Phung wax and Mekong sand
(sand and wax therefore adhere to the surface of these statues,
they should not be removed with the intention of "cleaning" them).
*
The base of the statue also contains blessed yellow wax
and a sacred stone Kao Tok Phra Ruang.
Legend says that these stones were magically produced by the Buddha
Phra Ruang who, invited during a Tak Bath Tewo celebration
in a place called Nat Kao Phrabat Yaï had received too much food.
So he decided to throw away his leftovers and said a prayer that his leftovers
turn into stone for eternity and that every person
placing them on his Altar be rich and lucky.
These stones are also known to attract fertility
(both for crops and for women and animals).
*
