This extraordinary image is considered to be an authentic photo
of Buddha Shakyamuni and is found in many temples in Asia.
There are several "urban legends" about him:
1) It was supposedly taken in the 1950s by a German photographer
came to do a report in India on the Sacred places of Buddhism.
This person was not Buddhist and was taking his pictures purely professionally. When developing one of the photos taken
at the foot of the Buddha tree, he had the extraordinary surprise of discovering
this miraculous image of the Buddha!
This photographer converted to Buddhism and ended his days as a monk. Until his dying day, he insisted that he had not faked his photo.
2) The photo was allegedly taken in the 1980s by a devotee in Bodh Gaya,
who was taking pictures of the Buddha tree, and was surprised
to get this image developed.
3) It will be a retouched version of the painting "The Temptation of Buddha"
by Eduardo Chicharro Aguera (1873-1949).
Even though I love beautiful stories and strange phenomena,
The last explanation seems the most convincing to me...
That said, it is quite difficult to obtain a copy of this photo.
