Thai amulets and sacred objects of the Lersi Hermits.
*
The tradition of Lersi hermits (Thai: Reusi ) dates back to the very distant past,
long before the birth of the historical Buddha, the Buddha's parents
having indeed received the visit of one of these Holy men
when he was just born!
*
The Lersi are traditionally depicted as old men,
long-haired, bearded and wearing a tiger skin.
They are also often seen depicted with long canes.
decorated with fantastic animals and large-grained Malas .
*
We also sometimes see statues and amulets of Lersi with animal faces (Tiger, Lion, Monkey, but also cow and even Naga !)
*
Amulets representing Lersi
are mostly protections against Black Magic
but also good aids in the practice of meditation.
