Antique carved wooden stylus – Representation of Tao Wessuwan – Ritual tool for tracing the Yant ( Mai Sak Yant )
Description :
An ancient ritual tool, Lek Jan, used in Thai tradition for tracing Yant (ยันต์), this carved wooden stylus depicts Tao Wessuwan (ท้าวเวสสุวรรณ), the powerful guardian of treasures and protector against malevolent spirits. Known as one of the Four Heavenly Kings in the Buddhist pantheon, Tao Wessuwan embodies power and protection in the esoteric practices of Southeast Asia.
Traditionally used by Ajarn (lay ritual masters) or monks specializing in Sak Yant , this Mai Sak Yant allowed sacred diagrams to be precisely traced onto various media such as blessed cloth, wax, clay, or paper, before blessing or final engraving. The tip of the stylus contains a fine metal needle , perfect for precise tracings, and the handle features a beautiful antique hand-carved design .
Some such objects are also used for temporary hand tattooing (depositing ink without piercing deeply), or for tracing lines before a final tattoo with a "khem sak" (traditional tattoo needle).
