Biography of the Most Venerable Luang Phor Djoy Jantasuwanno of Wat Sri-Uthumphon

Luang Phor Djoy Jantasuwanno, also transcribed as Luang Pho Joi, Luang Pho Choi or in Thai หลวงพ่อจ้อย จนฺทสุวณฺโณ, was one of the great revered monks of Nakhon Sawan province. Former abbot of Wat Sri-Uthumphon, also known as Wat Wang Duea, he remains in popular memory as a monk of discipline, kindness and spiritual power.

The Thai sources consulted indicate that he was born either in 1899 or on April 8, 1913 in Uthai Thani province (this is not unusual, birth dates of people born in Thailand in the early 20th century are often unclear), before becoming a monk and settling at Wat Sri-Uthumphon, in the Mueang Nakhon Sawan district. The temple, founded in 1942, became an important religious center under his influence, known as much for its remarkable constructions as for the fervor of its devotees.

Luang Phor Djoy was considered a Phra Keji Ajarn, meaning a monk master of blessings, sacred prayers and Thai amulets. His disciples sometimes nicknamed him "the god of Pak Nam Pho", not in a literal sense, but to express the immense respect the people of Nakhon Sawan had for him.

A builder and benefactor monk

He is remembered as a builder monk, close to ordinary people, who dedicated his life to the development of the temple, helping the faithful and transmitting the Buddhist faith. His reputation was based not only on the sacred objects he blessed, but also on his ability to inspire people to become better.

“Blessing amulets so that they are effective,
but above all blessing people so that they become good.”

This phrase, often associated with his memory, perfectly summarizes the spirit of his teaching: true protection comes not only from an amulet, but also from merit, right conduct and a pure heart.

Amulets and sacred objects of Luang Phor Djoy

Luang Phor Djoy blessed many Thai sacred objects: medals, statuettes, takrut, phra kring, phra pidta, talismans, ritual knives and yantra cloths.
His amulets are particularly sought after for protection, metta maha niyom, luck, business and safety during travel.

According to local tradition, he preferred to bless his creations himself, in a sober and concentrated practice, without necessarily resorting to large gatherings of masters. This personal way of consecrating objects further enhanced the aura of his amulets among collectors and devotees.

Esoteric anecdotes

A first anecdote reports that several devotees attributed klaew klaad experiences to his amulets, meaning invulnerability and avoidance of danger: avoided accidents, minor falls or dangerous situations passed without injury. As always in Thai tradition, these stories stem from popular faith and the memory of disciples.

Another tradition states that objects consecrated by Luang Phor Djoy carried a particularly peaceful energy. Some devotees said that his amulets did not give an "aggressive" impression, but rather a calm protection, linked to merit, benevolence and the monk's quiet strength.

End of life and spiritual legacy

Luang Phor Djoy passed away peacefully on April 16, 2007. After his passing, Wat Sri-Uthumphon continued to attract many faithful who came to pray, seek protection, prosperity and blessings. His memory remains very much alive in Nakhon Sawan, where he is still honored as one of the great spiritual masters of the region.

For collectors of ancient Thai amulets, Luang Phor Djoy Jantasuwanno represents the example of a monk who was at once a builder, an ascetic, a protector and a master of blessings. His amulets are not only collector's items: they bear witness to a deep relationship between the temple, the master and Thai popular faith.
