Gampopa (1079–1153), also called Dhakpo Rinpoche, is a historical master of the Kagyupa lineage.
and more particularly of the branch called Karma-kagyu.
A disciple of Milarepa, he is considered the founder of the Dhagpo Kagyu mother lineage,
and the ancestor of the "four great schools" of the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism founded by four of his disciples.
